Stanley Cup close - but maybe not close

December 23, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

KELOWNA, B.C. - Kenyan Drake Jersey The Vancouver Canucks are so close to the Stanley Cup they could practically touch it, but that doesn't mean the storied silverware will be in Rogers Arena when the Canucks enter Game 7 of their first round battle against Chicago.Instead, the Stanley Cup will be 400 kilometres away in Kelowna, B.C., part of an invitation-only tour by Andy Dalton Jersey a major tire company.Fans can only hope that positive vibes from the trophy will reach from the Okanagan to the Canucks, energizing a team that was initially picked as a cup favourite.Vancouver finished first overall in the NHL standings this season and quickly jumped to a three-games-to-none lead in their opening series with the Blackhawks. But the defending championsthe team that has eliminated the Canucks Arthur Brown Jersey in each of the last two yearshas clawed back to even the series at three games apiece.Critics say tonight's home ice game may be the most important Kenny Stills Jersey in the history of the Vancouver franchise, with a win setting the Canucks back on track toward the Stanley Cup, while a lo s would cement a shocking collapse. Williams scores 18th Stoll sprawls for g

December 23, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Cycling Jonathan Casillas Jersey pucks, moving their feet, and finding the open man, the Los Angeles Kings put together an impre sive shift in the third period. Jarret Stoll finished it off with a flourish, scoring on a backhander as he sailed through the air.For a team in desperate need of a win, this was a great way to get it.Justin Williams scored his 18th goal to start an opening flurry, and Stoll had the sprawling capper during the game's biggest shift, giving Los Angeles a 4-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night."It was a special kind of shift," Kings coach Terry Murray said. Paul Perkins Jersey "That's a shift you would pull off and show your team, encourage them to follow that template."Los Angeles certainly needed it.Frustrated by what they felt was a bad call in a game against Phoenix two nights earlier, the Kings seemed to have an extra jump early, getting first-period goals from Williams, Drew Doughty and Alec Martinez.Phoenix, despite playing without top defencemen Ed Jovanovski and Derek Morris, rallied from a sluggish start with Lee Stempniak's two goals and another by Martin Hanzal Mark Herzlich Jersey to tie it heading into the third.Los Angeles gathered itself to start the third, and Stoll's line came through with the game-turning shift. After working the puck for close to 30 seconds, the Kings set up Jack Johnson for a shot between the circles that caromed off Los Angeles wing Ryan Smyth just left of the crease. Sensing he needed an all-or-nothing effort, Evan Engram Jersey Stoll dived and swiped simultaneously, sending the puck to the back of the net.Invigorated by the workmanlike shift, the Kings limited Phoenix's chances the rest of the period and ended a three-game losing streak.

Khabibulin makes 23 saves and leads Blac

December 23, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

CHICAGO - Blackhawks goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was quick to share the credit after his 39th career NHL shutout."The whole team worked well," Khabibulin said. "I was really impre sed."Khabibulin made 23 saves to help Chicago beat Josh Evans Jersey Edmonton 3-0 on Wednesday night to end the Oilers' season-opening winning streak at four games.Patrick Sharp, Brent Seabrook and Aaron Johnson scored to help the Blackhawks win their second straight game and improve to 2-0-1 since Joel Quenneville replaced Denis Savard as coach last Thursday.Khabibulin's shutout was his first of the season and fourth since he joined the Blackhawks as a free agent in July 2005."Edmonton is a fast team and I thought we outskated Nate Sudfeld Jersey them tonight," Khabibulin added. "I thought our defensive zone coverage was really good."The Oilers didn't test Khabibulin heavily. A shot by Shawn Horcoff midway through the first period beat him, but Doug Williams Jersey hit the cro sbar."He was square. He was challenging," Quenneville said. "And the guys in front of him played extremely well. I thought all areas of the game were in order."Khabibulin has been solid in his last three starts, but Quenneville isn't ready to make him the team's No. 1 goalie ahead of Cristobal Huet."Right now, I'm in no hurry," Quenneville said. "Both guys are deserving of getting some playing time. It's a healthy position Trent Williams Jersey to be in as a team."

Habs flag bearer wipes out then Carey P

December 21, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

Sometimes a little gesture goes a long way. Carey Price saved a young flagbearer from embarra sment after he wiped out Devin McCourty Jerseybefore Game 2 Sunday night. To quote Tom Arnold in True Lies: "It's called ice, and it gets a little slick."That's what makes pre-game hockey pageantry unique compared to that of other major sports. It happens on ice, making the slips and falls far more frequent, far more painful and far more embarra sing. And imagine how much that feeling magnifies when you're kid, a Steve Grogan Jersey goalie and you're about to share ice with the Montreal Canadiens. A young netminder did his best to tote the flag before Game 2 between the Habs and Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday night. But the poor tyke looked like he was wearing cement equipment. The weight of it all brought him down and he had a devil of a time getting back to his feet. To us, the scene is probably more adorable than cringe-worthy, but the moment must've felt like 10 minutes for the poor guy. Then, with a simple gesture, Carey Price comes to the rescue. A blocker-to-glove fist pound, a stick tap on the pads, a few words and some all-around acknowledgement. Check it out:Sure, Duron Harmon Jersey it's a fleeting moment, and really not that big a deal. But it likely was to the little fella, and it's nice to see an elite athlete realize how much two seconds of his time can live on in the mind of another.Matt Larkin is an a sociate editor at The Hockey News anda regular contributor to the thn.com Post-To-Post blog Drew Bledsoe Jersey .For more great profiles, news and views from the world of hockey, subscribe to The Hockey News magazine.Follow Matt Larkin on Twitter at@THNMattLarkin

THN.com Jersey Tournament The Finale

December 21, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

It comes down to this. Hundreds began Melvin Ingram Jersey and now there are two. The final matchup in our summer jersey showdown pits the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux of the WCHA against the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. So yeah, theres a bit of a theme. The Fighting Sioux knocked off the venerable Boston Bruins in the semifinals after beating the London Knights and Rimouski Oceanic before that. Chicago continued its domination by taking apart the equally legendary Montreal Canadiens (who were last year's logo champion), while Forrest Lamp Jersey the Florida Everblades and Ottawa 67s were earlier victims (view the tournament schedule on The Hockey News Jersey Rankings and Tournament Central page). Which squad will earn the crown? Both have Midwest roots and rabid fan bases, so its anyones gue s. Chicago probably has the advantage, but dont count out the underdog Sioux, who have taken on all comers so far. The choice is yours and there can only be one. Leafs coach Ron Wilson makes good on pro

December 21, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

TORONTO - Ron Wilson made good on his promise to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a hard skate. The coach was much calmer the Quinton Spain Jersey morning after a 2-1 lo s to Ottawa, but that didn't keep him from sending a me sage at practice on Wednesday. The Leaf players faced more than 10 minutes of straight skating to kick things off and had other tough drills sprinkled throughout practice.Even though the team has played just three games so far, many of the players didn't Byron Bell Jersey object to the timing of such a hard workout."It's never too early," said forward Alexei Ponikarovsky. "It's just the way it is. You play a bad game, you just have to set your mind straight. To do that, you go through a hard practice and you know what needs to be done."Added linemate Niklas Hagman: "It had quite a bit of skating. It was fairly tough."Wilson was visibly upset in the wake of Tuesday's lo s to the Senators, saying the team "stunk" while promising a tough practice to try and wake his players up.The coach felt the team didn't compete hard enough to make it difficult for Ottawa to play a road game at the Air Canada Centre. Moving forward, he hopes that shorter shifts help give the Leafs more energy Bruce Matthews Jersey ."It's physiologically impo sible to go all out for even more than 25 or 30 seconds," said Wilson. "Part of today was to illustrate that."Leafs goalie Jonas Gustav son was kept out DeMarco Murray Jersey of Wednesday's practice because of a sore groin, but is expected to be back on the ice Thursday.Rookie winger Viktor Stalberg was also absent after suffering a head injury following a vicious - and clean - hit by Ottawa's Anton Volchenkov. There was no timetable offered for his return.

Max Pacioretty scores hat trick to lift

December 19, 2017 by Melissa Underwood

MONTREAL - If the Montreal Canadiens had lost the game, Max Pacioretty would have been kicking himself for a long time, despite scoring a hat Kam Chancellor Jersey trick. With the Canadiens leading the Vancouver Canucks by only one goal midway through the second period on Thursday, a game Montreal would eventually win 5-2, Pacioretty was awarded two penalty shots in a two-minute span.He mi sed them both. For the first, Pacioretty was hooked on a breakaway by recently-acquired defenceman Raphael Diaz at 11:47. After the referee pointed to centre ice, the Canadiens' leading goal-scorer walked in all alone, but shot high and wide."I thought a Cliff Avril Jersey little bit too much before the shot," said Pacioretty, who had already scored Montreal's first goal earlier in the game. "That didn't help me."Le s than two minutes later, Alexandre Burrows took Pacioretty down on another breakaway, and the decision on the ice was the same."I couldn't believe it," said Pacioretty. "I was just trying to catch my breath, wipe down my visor, buy myself Eddie Lacy Jersey a little extra time. That's the last thing I would expect to happen so quickly after my first one."This time, Pacioretty lost control of the puck, bobbled it, and then took a weak backhand shot on Roberto Luongo, who made the pad save.Pacioretty has taken three penalty shots in his career - two on Thursday, and another on Oct. 12, 2013, in Vancouver. Luongo Ahtyba Rubin Jersey , who made 25 saves on Thursday, got the better of him on all three occasions."He's a big goalie, he's a good goalie," said Pacioretty of the Canucks netminder. "When it comes to penalty shots, he's in my head."
