Who Are The Myers Law Firm?

July 9, 2019 by Travis Lofley

  • When you work with The Myers Law Firm, you will work closely with our lawyers, Michael Alan Myers and Laura Bradley Myers. Mike and Laura Myers are a husband and wife team who have been married for almost two decades. They have a combined 35 years of legal experience between them, and they are both experienced personal injury attorneys. Mike and Laura are dedicated to providing all of their clients with individual attention and exceptional legal representation.

Significant Experience On Both Sides Of Personal Injury Claims

Before representing injured people, both Mike and Laura spent years defending insurance companies in the exact same type of claims they are now prosecuting. The knowledge Mike and Laura gained from working closely with insurance companies and insurance adjusters for years as defense lawyers has been invaluable to them and the clients they serve today, because they have a deeper and more thorough knowledge of exactly how insurance companies value and assess their clients' personal injury claims. Mike and Laura are able to easily anticipate the critiques that insurance carriers will assess to their clients' claims, and are well-prepared to present their clients' cases with these critiques in mind, in order to avoid problems that will cause their clients' cases to be worth less money.

  • The Different Types of Vein Disease

July 3, 2019 by Travis Lofley

  • Spider Veins

Easily visible through the skin, spider veins appear purple and blue. They are usually visible on the legs but are occasionally seen on the face, as well. Unlike varicose veins, spider veins usually do not cause any serious medical problems and are considered a cosmetic issue.

Sclerotherapy, a minimally invasive, in-office procedure, helps to treat spider veins. A solution is injected into the affected vein which causes the vein to dissolve, thereby resolving the problem. Recovery is immediate.

This procedure is typically not covered by insurance.

    Varicose Veins

Varicose Vein TreatmentVaricose veins usually look dark blue, swollen, and twisted under the skin. Many patients develop symptoms over time that include pain, burning, heaviness, and aching that often curtails normal activities. These enlarged veins may look and feel better when the affected leg is elevated, however they become enlarged again while standing or walking. If left untreated, they may progress to more serious conditions such as leg swelling, discoloration or leg ulcers. Venous Reflux (venous insufficiency) is a condition in the lower extremities where blood flow back to the heart is interrupted because the tiny valves are no longer functioning properly, resulting in blood pooling in the legs and extending the veins. Many patients often go untreated because they may not be familiar with vein disease. The pain often progresses through the day and is worse in the evening. Symptoms may also increase during menstruation. Successful treatment of varicose veins can alleviate these symptoms.

    Edema (Swelling)

Leg SwellingLeg swelling occurs because of an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the lower extremity. The medical term for leg swelling from excessive fluid in the tissues is edema and is often a symptom of vascular insufficiency, the underlying cause of varicose veins. Edema typically causes swelling around the ankle and then spreads to the lower leg. Swelling will typically worsen during the day, then subside when the leg is elevated.

    Active Venous Stasis Ulcer

Venous UlcerationThe most severe stage of vein disease is an active leg ulcer or non-healing open wound. An active venous stasis ulcer will occur in the lower leg and can range in size from small to quite large. These ulcers are usually painful and can become infected. Many patients report severe pain while performing even simple activities like walking or standing.

Not usually identified as symptoms of venous insufficiency, venous stasis ulcers often go untreated or ineffectively treated as a wound. Without proper blood flow to the lower extremity, venous ulcers won’t heal using topical medical treatements. At Milligan Vein Clinic, we have great success treating this debilitating condition.

  • Child Advocates Help Children Thrive in a Challenging Season

July 2, 2019 by Travis Lofley

  • Child Advocates is the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) chapter of Marion County, encompassing the city of Indianapolis in central Indiana. The program started in 1982 and is formerly known as the Guardian Ad Litem project.

Child Advocates formed out of a changing legal environment. Before its formation, children had no one to represent them in the courtroom. In child abuse cases in Indianapolis, both the parents and the state of Indiana are represented by legal counsel, so the formation of Child Advocates filled this hole as a sort of liaison. The original Guardian Ad Litem project was founded by the Indianapolis Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) in 1982, because NCJW and the courts recognized the need for abused and neglected children to have independent representation. In 1988, NCJW turned over the Guardian Ad Litem Project to the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society. In 1982 the project was incorporated as Child Advocates, Inc. and became a stand-alone agency.

Child advocates offer one of the most challenging yet incredibly rewarding volunteer opportunities. As the future of these children hangs in the balance, they need a strong, older voice to represent their best interests.

Child advocates number one goal is to provide independent, child-focused representation to every child who has suffered abuse and/or neglect. We are the only agency to hold a contract with the Indianapolis Juvenile Court to provide this service.

Even if you cannot give your time to Child Advocates, your financial support goes a long way to the quality of services we are able to provide, being a non-profit organization. Your gift is tax deductible as allowed by law an is in accordance with IRS regulations, so no goods or services will ever be exchanged in conjunction with your gifts. As a donor, you will care for children in need all year long.

These are just a brief glimpse that we’ve given into the Child Advocates of Marion County. We invite you to explore more on our website and be on the lookout for more information in the future!

  • CBD Oil is For Pets Too, But Make Sure You Use Safe Doses

July 1, 2019 by Travis Lofley

  • As CBD oil becomes more popular, accepted, and legal we get the questions from new customers trying our products - “Is CBD oil safe for my pet?” The answer is yes, but you want to make sure you’re practicing safe dosing habits as you would for yourself as well.

There’s no exact dosing amount for pets but rather a range you should stay in. Begin at the low end and base the starting dosage on your pet’s body weight, increasing and decreasing accordingly from there. When using any of our “Simply Hemp” products, the recommended dose is 10 drops for pets 25 lbs and under and 20 drops for 25 lbs and over. This may be given all in one dose or split into two doses every 12 hours.

It’s best that you start with a half of a dose for your pet’s weight. From there, every four to five days, slowly increase the dose by one or two drops until you’ve achieved the desired effect for whatever conditioning you’re providing treatment for your pet. Take for example if your pet is under 25 lbs. Start with five drops and then increase one or two drops every four or five days until you reach 10 drops.

When your pet’s condition has improved to the desired point, you’re in good shape then to maintain the maximum dosage of CBD oil on a regular daily maintenance schedule without making further adjustments on the minimum/maximum.

We want to remind you that CBD is not the answer for all pets. Some animals do better on it than others, just like people. And for some, it’s just not the most effective treatment. You must adjust the dosage for your pet to ensure that the tincture will be effective. When in doubt, err on the side of under-dosing because you can always slowly increase the dose and monitor the effect.

Note: This article has been repurposed and paraphrased from information on our website. We invite you to read the full disclaimer on our page regarding CBD dosing for pets.

  • How To Establish Your Tuff Turf By Seed

June 30, 2019 by Travis Lofley

  • It’s gardening season, and if you’ve been looking for tips on how to establish your Tuff Turf by seed, you’ve come to the right place. Check out the bullet points below on our go-to items when planting seed.

    • The best time to plant seed is in early spring or late summer. If you seed at other times, plan on lightly re-seeding after establishment, as initial seeding results may not be optimum

    • Take a soil sample, lime and fertilize according to recommendations. Till amendments into the top 6-8 inches of soil

    • We recommend using Endure Starter Fertilizer for all new seedings and inter-seeding applications

    • Prepare a good seedbed by tilling 6-8 inches deep. Firm and level well after tilling

    • After all amendments have been worked in, firm the seedbed by rolling to assure that no soft spots remain that would later settle

    • After firming the soil, loosen the top 1 inch with a rake

    • Apply the seed at the recommended rates with a drop seeder or broadcast seeder

    • Lightly rake the seed into the top 1/4 inch of soil. Seed needs to be embedded into the soil to assure quick and uniform germination

    • Firm the soil again. Then lightly apply straw, or other mulching materials to hold seed and moisture Mulching materials and straw will also help hold the soil and seed in place during heavy rain or watering

    • In the absence of adequate rainfall, newly seeded areas should be watered lightly and frequently. As the grass begins to grow, water less frequently but with more water per application. Water the newly seeded grass during the morning and early afternoon hours. Avoid watering in the evenings to lessen seedling disease pressure
