This is for those who are interested in tools used for programming/flashing a BMW car.

 

There is ISTA-P and E-SYS and Winkfp.

ISTA: simple, mainly new modules

WinKFP: main use is on Used Modules or Modified cars

E-sys: is a substitution for WinKFP

This world now has toooooo much money a float(read note#1)... before i used many used modules and so i used WinKFP... now a day i tell to people NO MORE USED Modules ONLY NEW so therefor i MAINLY use ISTA...... Many Shops in USA using AutoLogic Diag system... about a 1~1.5 year ago Autologic made an updated of it's software and now it does not allow to use used module.

So now a days in USA it's kinda a standard to use NEW modules ONLY everywhere you go (European cars)

If you mention "can mechanic use used module in my car" you get a respond maybe some other shop by not this one

Note: In South Bay Area California about a week ago or two it has been made into a law that if a family of 2 makes $250,000 or less, then family considers to be LOW-INCOME family, basically a homeless family.

Why do i need a hassle to reprogram used module when people that make $200+K are homeless... Driving a BMW.....

The last...

ISTA P will program used modules no problem in expert mode as long as it's the correct version of the module. Done it many times. But winkfp is easier.

But FYI, ISTA/P will not always program used modules.

Used modules such as airbag control unit in e6x will no proceed for example. Because of the non matching VIN number.

Will have to use WinKFP for this as it erases the VIN then encode the module.

Other modules such as active steering wheel control module to in E6x will not be flashed in ISTA/P if used. VIN will need to be erased first.

How to use CAS3,CAS4 Module tester work with yanhua mini acdp?

 

Is the CAS broken?

One: CAS tester function

1: Is the CAS program running normally?

2: Is the CAS data valid.

3: Does the key have an inductive signal output?

4: Is the key legal and valid?

Tester indicator definition

1: The indicator light D2 flashes to indicate that the tester CAN bus communicates with the CAS module normally.

2: The indicator light D4 is long on, indicating that the CAS module data is valid.

3: The key is placed in the induction coil, and the D3 indicator flashes, indicating that the key has an LF signal output.

4: The tester beeps, indicating that the key is successfully validated for the valid key of the corresponding CAS module or the newly assigned key.

How to activate "Flight Recorder" for Micropod 2 & VCI Pod

I know the MicroPod 2 and Witech has a "Flight Recorder" mode. This would be great to use for datalogging as most aftermarket OBD scan tools can't access some options on a Chrysler product like, knock sensing, trans temps, etc....

Does anyone have or have used the Trigger for the MicroPod 2?

Has anyone built a trigger to activate "Flight Recorder" for the micropod 2?

Here you go.

It is the older trigger that was used on the VCI pods that had a RJ11 connector (phone cord). In order to use it on the new MicroPods there is a RJ11 to MicroUsb adapter needed.

I guess I'm going to start hunting for the older trigger for the VCI pods now

Here's what the VCI Pod or StarMobile trigger looks like. This is also the same one used for the MicroPod but with an adapter.

I should have a Witech Flight Recorder trigger in my hands shortly. Once I do, Ill crack it open. The one component I'm lacking is the RJ11 to Mini USB adapter. After searching for hours on line I can't seem to find the part number for the Witech adapter for the trigger. Worst case scenario I ill just rig one up, but I'd rather find the correct one to use.

We'll my Witech trigger showed up that is used to activate or deactivate the flight recorder using the VCI Pod or the Micropod 2. I actually expected something a little bit more elaborate with microchips, resistors, etc...

Nope, it's just a basic momentary on/off switch with a couple of led's on the TX/RX circuit

This switch costed me $55 shipped "USED" just so I could finally tear one open to see what on the inside. For those of you that can make simple circuits you can duplicate this trigger for cheap.

I also have to make an RJ11 to Mini-USB adapter to plug into my micropod as I can't seem to find one prebuilt or even find an OE styled adapter.

Once I have the trigger connected, I'll post my results on if it worked or not

Well tonight I tried the "Keep it simple stupid" method be using an available RJ12/RJ11 port that I had for wiring the home phone system. It is designed to allow you to push wires into slits and drop a cover over it just like you would for RJ45/ethernet wiring.

I made the mistake of not testing the resistance between point A and point B and when I did the test it was a failure. When I came back into the house I tested the adapter and go figure the connections between the RJ11 adapter and the mini usb port were not solid.

So I'm going the hard way by soldering the points "A to B" to be sure there is a solid connection without using the home style adapter for home networking.

Also I will note, you "Can Not" bench test the flight recorder. You have to be plugged into a vehicle for you to enable the flight recorder. I had my micropod2 setup on a 12v supply to power it up so I could "Try" it and it would not work.

So further updates will have to be posted......

We'll the RJ11 to Mini-USB adapter should work, but the problem I totally forgot about was the FightRecorder is setup using WiFi to the Micropod2 and it gets disabled once connected to a USB port.

So unless a clone has the ability for WiFi, there isn't a way to enable the flight recorder. For those of you that "Do" have a legit MicroPod 2 the pictures above show you what is needed to create your own flight recorder trigger as long as you understand basic electronics.

Definition:

PSA IMMO tool is able to extract the pin code from PSA engines

You can read the pin code from the ECU memory of all the engines

Control Units, Sagem, Johnson controls and Valeo BSI units

Function:

The device has two main functions: one is the calculation of the pin code through obd, which detects the signal from bsi to ecu. The obd pin code needs the operating key.

Another function is the programming of the emulator

It allows you to enter the postal code in the EMU so that the car operates without a key.

How to:

The device has two modes of operation:

Mode-1 Calculator:

Connect the OBD Cable supplied to the car

and select "calculator"

and then turn the ignition 8 times.

Each time the cycle the ignition against will increase.

In the 8th calculator, start working!

Wait 5 minutes and the security pin will be displayed on the screen

Mode-2 emulator: 

The emulator function will only emulate an operation key once the pin has been calculated.

This can be useful for diagnosing problems with the security system.

Not all cars can be made through the diagnostic port

some cars require the calculator to connect to the CAN H and L cables under the hood.

Basically, if a can H and L connection is available in the diagnosis

Then, you can use the calculator through the OBDII port

If not, it requires a direct connection.

wiTech MicroPod 2 key programming:

  • You must be online to program the key.
  • The PIN Code is only good for one session, which lasts 72 hours. After 72 hours the pin code expires.
  • If you input the wrong code for three-time it locks the BCM and you cannot service the vehicle for 24 hours.
  • The key is one-time programmable. Once married to the vehicle it is locked to the car forever. The key can be erased from the car and put back into the same car, but can’t be switched to another car.
  • The placement of the key during initialization is important. It needs to be placed either behind the shifter or in the center console.
